Objectives: By the end of the lesson students will have familiarised themselves with the topic of supplying goods and materials to industrial sites and engineering companies. Students will have received and practised new technical and professional lexis both orally and in writing. They will have made up and presented their company, practising the functional language of presentation and talking about a company. Students will have argued on the topic of sustainable logistics and supply chains.

PLANNING AND PREPARATION FOR THE CLASS

I had a clear vision for this lesson and preparation for it was not awfully lengthy or complicated. I went with a classic CLT reading comprehension lesson procedure thinking it would be the most effective one for the text and the topic. My plan was to start the lesson with the revision of the topic lexis from the previous class which was also the topic vocabulary in this class (Vehicles). I created a Kahoot! for this purpose. After the Kahoot the classin reading lesson stages followed:
– generate interest in the topic (discussion on what logistics is)
– generate interest in the text (brainstorming “supply chain”)
– Reading task 1 (Reading for detail questions)
– Blocking vocabulary meaning clarification (Crosswordlabs)
– Reading task 2 (Comprehension questions made by students themselves)
– Response to the text (Discussion: How to choose suppliers?)
– Response to the topic (Task: transport goods from point A to B. Design the route and means of transport )

All the stages were designed to be interactive. The students were to work in pairs and groups to use the language and speak on the topic.
As an extra I included the topic of green logistics to bring sustainable development issues to the engineering context.

HOW DID I FEEL BEFORE CLASS?
Confident. I had a good plan, careful lesson stage design and engaging and interactive activities. I knew the group of students already; I did not feel anxious coming to teach them again.

HOW DO I FEEL AFTER THE CLASS?

Happy and excited. The lesson went great, the students enjoyed the activities and were highly engaged at all lesson stages. I had a great feedback from students, they were ready to share and do the work actively.

WHAT WENT WELL IN CLASS? WHAT WORKED?

Kahoot! was a great start to the lesson. Students were having fun competing to score best. It was exciting! The activity where the students had to design the route and think of means of transport at each stage to deliver certain goods was highly collaborative and interactive. Students enjoyed it and were eager to share their results.

WHAT DIDN’T GO SO WELL? WHAT WOULD I CHANGE?

Everything worked today. There is nothing I would change.

MY STRENGTHS

  • Good lesson plan and material design
  • Monitoring
  • Interactive tasks promoting creativity and imagination
  • Game element

POINTS FOR IMPROVEMENT

  • make sure that everyone can hear everyone during the feedback stages

GUIDINGTEACHER’S FEEDBACK

The teacher was very pleased with my lesson and there was no negative feedback. The teacher suggested to address the issue of acoustics in a large classroom. Sitting in the back of the classroom she realised that it’s not easy to hear someone speaking in the front. She suggested me to make sure the students in the back can hear the answers coming from the front. I believe it can be done in the following three ways:

  • ask every student to speak louder;
  • repeat every student’s answer louder myself;
  • write model answers in the presentation and show after the feedback stage;

I ‘ll use all of them in the next classes to make sure every student hears the correct answer.
